By far one of the best fantasy series I have ever read. I'm re-reading it because Book Three comes out any time now and I need to brush up on the wealth of characters in the series. |
 So what do you think the graphic above means? If I put it on my car, maybe I'm trying to tell the public at large that I run Ruined.Net. Or maybe I have a hot spot for Resident Nurses? Or maybe I'm just Really Naughty. Heh. I've going to tackle this trend for car owners to put stickers or license plates on their car that are so vague they make no damn sense.
OBX. HI. GB. DUMB.
You've probably seen these on automobiles. A white oval shape with these obscure letters in black on it. I was going to go off completely, not knowing what they are, but I was smart and asked around. I figured somebody had to know what these people were putting on their cars to show that they're quaint or cool. I was right, but I'm not satisfied. I was on the right track, thinking that HI meant Hawaii. But then again, it could have just said HI!, trying to be cute to those behind them. Or maybe even Huge Idiot? GB? Well since I liked football, I figured it could have to do with Green Bay, but then that didn't tie to HI. And who wants something that says, "Hey, I've travelled to Wisconsin!"? Get up on this Wisconsin Death Trip! And one is a state, one is a city. Okay. Grrr… I was getting pissed off because they have them on the back of their cars, obviously trying to show people like me who are stuck behind them in traffic that they are someone special. Turns out my friend says that they are something to do with the military. GB isn't Green Bay, it's Great Britain. Still, what the hell correlation is there to Hawaii? And what the hell is OBX? One Big X… O Beats X in a game of Tic Tac Toe? They're driving me nuts here. Hey, maybe mine means I was a member of the Royal Navy! It's a lot like people who do these obscure ass personalized license plates with a message they thought was nifty. Odds are, all the good stuff was taken two decades ago. So you'll put something down that goes with your work. Or you'll put you and your loved ones initials. Ain't that cute? But it does nothing for me, honestly. Sure, I've thought about trying to get one that says RUINED, but someone else in North Carolina may have it, and let me tell you, that will really piss me off. I'll get on the Internet, track 'em down and make fun of their car. I mean, isn't it bad enough we have to deal with people and their cute email addresses that make no damned sense? And I know people like them, but I almost have a problem with bumper stickers on the car. Why? Because it entices people like me to crawl up on their bumper while driving so I can read the stupid things. And yes, most of them I consider stupid. Something about you wish you were doing this instead, or something about your kid being an honor student even though they graduated ten years ago. Or the biblical terms and or advice, which to me has no place on the road. Maybe they should be more apt. "If this car is in an accident, please Lord save me!" "I have no sense of humor, so I bought this witty bumper sticker." Or one of my favorites: "If you can read this, stop tailgating me asshole!" And the personalized plates could actually serve a purpose for once. I'd like to see some plates that make more sense. How about DUIxxx with some extra numbers to show that this person was a drunken driver? Or maybe TALGATxx, so we'll know to ride their ass on the road for a change? Or please, how about SLOWxxxx or maybe ELDERxxx so I can see it from a distance and know to pass these ancient drivers? Maybe I've missed out. Maybe putting stickers on your car is along the same lines as getting tattoos on your skin, something I can relate to. They're personal, they represent the real you.
