Rant 02 - Living Life
05.1997

Funny how time flies, isn't it? I sit here and realize how long it's been since certain things in my life have happened: Last major girlfriend - 2 years (almost). N.C. State - 6 years. That abominable job at Collins & Aikman - 4 years. High School? Jeez. But then I think of things that have happened over these periods of time. Many friendships started and some faded away. Visits to a variety of states. Little funny things that may not seem important until you really think about it.

I guess I'm a little driven by factors that have changed for my friends just over this past weekend. Late Friday night, one of my best friends, Raymond Terry, lost his mother. She was 68 and passed away from heart disease. Raymond has to be one of the best all around guys I know. He is extremely polite, funny, always offers a kind word. And he gets dealt this cruel hand. Guy already has a lot on his shoulders, and now this. Guess that's why he's got friends like me to help him out, eh?

And then, there's Steve Bailey. If you've glanced at my list of recent news, you'll already know that Steve packed up Saturday and boldly moved out to San Diego in search of a programming job. Boy is crazy. (BTW, I'm in North Carolina, U.S. if ya didn't know) Got to admire that gusto. I watched Alan Bottoms do the same and move to L.A. last year, now Steve. He will be missed, and I will use him as an excuse to make a toast a few times now.

I guess where I'm going with all of this is to re-emphasize my beliefs that you should live you life to the fullest. Easy to say, tough to do. I constantly hold back for fear of consequences. Probably the reason I'm still stuck in this dead-end job (that and debts to be sure). Try not to take too many things for granted, because before you know it, they may disappear and it could be too late. I don't subscribe to a lot of beliefs, but I think this one is pretty solid. Don't wait for next week - If you've got something to do, do it Today!
